I wouldn't really define Cooks as a 'role player'. Yes, I mean he is more of a deep threat than Woods or Kupp is- so he plays that "role" more. But as a guy that caught 80 passes last year and 300+ over the previous 4 years total he is far from a one trick pony.
While the offense sputtered early on he still produced- 19 catches for 300 yards in their first 4 games. The deep connection from Goff to him has not been there nearly as much. But I feel like he's simply been in a down stretch (4 catches the past 3 games, and compounded by the concussion issue and missing time previously) vs. being some guy that does not fit them.
One thing I have thought is they may be going away from the deep in routes that he has done so well because those tend to open a receiver up more to hits. Just a thought. But I would not write him off at all. He could just as easily explode for 100 yards this Sunday.
