Great report, Alyo. As usual.
12) Overall attitude on defense. Just a different mindset it looks like.
I think it’s more than just attitude, actually, although there certainly is that. I think that Ramsey/Hill are much more suited to Wade’s preferred D than Peters/Talib ever were, and as such they enable Wade to scheme in ways that take away pass targets for an extra second or two. This, in turn, puts excruciating pressure on the opposing QB as he faces a fierce pass rush both up the middle and from the edges. The combo can be devastating, even against an elite QB such as Wilson.
14) Blythe looks really more comfy at center ... anyone else seeing that?
I’m certainly seeing it, too. So much so that I’m wondering if Blythe could be our starting C next year, assuming that he’ll sign something reasonable. Would be one less pick needed to plug a hole and one more available for other holes soon to be created by cap casualties (more on that later). Yeah, I’m unconvinced that Allen can be our C next year if we entertain playoff hopes.
16) Fowler's numbers will earn him a huge contract, I don't know that his play matches it overall .. but his numbers alone should get us a 3rd round comp alongside Josh Reynolds.
So you’re thinking that Fowler will be a cap casualty? Me, too. Let’s hope for a quality player in the draft at edge to fall to us. I’m a bit queasy about anyone currently on our roster being able to step in for Fowler just yet.
19) What's the deal with Cooks? He just a decoy deep threat now?
I’m as confused as you are about Cooks. Is it the concussions? Is he just an expensive decoy now? Is Goff even looking his way? Where have Cooks hands gone? Know what? I’m thinking that Cooks is an offseason trade away target, maybe for a 2nd tier player, maybe for a song just to get cap relief.
About those possible impending holes resulting from cap cuts, my guesses, anyway:
Brockers. A goner,
Whitworth. A goner.
Fowler. A goner.
Matthews. A possible goner.
Weddle. Probably a goner.
GZ. A possible goner.
I think they will attempt to trade Cooks away. Hav, too.
They will extend Littleton, Wade’s history of devaluing ILB notwithstanding.
Any cap net savings plus our draft will have to go for replacements of the above. Plus depth at RB, QB, OL, and maybe S. Not out of the question that our D might have to take a step backwards next year, early on. Here’s hoping that Snead can scoop up values such as he’s done with Kupp, JJ, Rapp, Reynolds, and Long with our top picks in this next draft. Gulp...
