I expected Higbee to be an H-back receiving type TE when the Rams drafted him, based on draft guides. I was surprised that he became a blocking TE. It looks like he is both as an all-around TE.
Below are some excerpts from PFW:
Entered the program as a 190 lb receiver as a true freshman in 2011...converted to tight end in 13.
Strengths: Very dependable, high-percentage hands catcher with a wide catch radius. Catches with confidence and plays with a lot of emotion. Good job finding soft spots in zone coverage and concentrating in a crowd between the hash marks. secures the ball cleanly outside his frame and can make difficult snags. Turns upfield urgently after the catch and can shake off the first heckler and weave through traffic. Tracks the ball well. Functional second level positional blocker, able to mirror his man, battles and competes. Max effort performer on special teams versatile and lines up at multiple positions.
Future: Converted receiver with outstanding hands and natural receiving skills. Higbee could factor readily in the passing game with continued focus and durability.
Scout's take: “He's a lot like (Broncos 2006 2nd rounder) Tony Scheffler. He can be a weapon in the passing game if he could stay healthy. He's a Clearwater Florida kid who enjoys the nightlife."Source
