Some one correct me if I missed the true originator, but to my recollection it was Elmo Wright, #17 of the Kansas City Chiefs, who started the tradition of spiking the ball after a touchdown.

That was about 50 years ago. I remember it from Howard Cossell’s MNF halftime highlights.

I don’t think the end zone pose for the camera after a decent play will be around for 50 years, but don’t listen to me. I’m not licensed to offer football advise.
