Nobody is going to successfully run the ball only, like the Rams with Dickerson. Or pass only, like the Dolphins with Marino. The league is too specialized nowadays and teams will shut down a one-dimensional offensive attack. Those days are gone.
Rams fans wring their hands about run game balance as if it only applies to them and their team. But it applies to everyone including our Rams. Without the balance you just can't get through that loaded lineup of playoff teams. Last year we got to the Super Bowl because our offense found that late balance, and removal of said balance led to defeat by the Patriots.
Good thing here... We might have the beginnings of a dominant defense. Our run defense has been among the elite teams this season. The pass defense has tightened up after adding Ramsey and getting rid of freelancing CB play with Peters' trade. If that happens, it buys the Rams time in each game to allow for balance, since it's hard to maintain that if you're falling behind due to porous defense.
Back to the OP's question... What he suggests in the body of his post I would say "Yes" to. Which is basically should we be balanced. Well, yes. If we want to be able to sustain offensively that is going to be a requirement.
