FIsher ball is not just about running a bunch.
It is about having a predictable, stale offense. In the context of running, Fisher ball is running for the sake of running versus running to be effective. It is about bad space management and predictability on trends.
The reason for running is to be have a high yards per carry which allows you to get favorable down and distance. It is about keeping the defense guessing with runs that have an opportunity for success.
The problem with running is when the defense decides you are not going to run, but you try to run 1 runner through 9 defenders on the line with only 6 to block. All of a sudden you have 15 - 250 to 300 pound bodies all trying to occupy the same space which leads to the run getting stuffed and the 3rd and 8 down and distance.
Which leads to running it and punting it.
