Thiry tries hard but doesn't know anything more than what she is spoon fed. I heard her on ESPNLA with Keyshawn and those guys and she said that Goff hasn't been good in the cold OR the rain. That is just sloppy reporting. I was there in NY when Goff was fantastic in the pouring rain against the Giants. Goff is perfectly fine in the rain. Oh, well, thats what we've got.
They've all made mistakes Max. The question then just becomes, whose mistakes do we gloss over and forget, and whose we don't. Basically, there is absolutely no differtence right now between and among all the 2nd tier Rams reporters. Maybe Hammond will step up now that he has the prime gig.
I agree that they are all pretty bad. Most of them don’t say anything. Pure blah. I guess I may be too hard on Thiry cause she’s more outspoken/critical and she gets too much stuff wrong in the process. It’s easier not to make mistakes when you don’t even try. I’m reserving all my comments for reporters who are actually in LA. Klein, Plaschke, Farmer, are practically worthless to me. I will say this for Thiry, at least she tries hard.
Give me a name of someone who is any good at all? I got nobody.
I don't they're BAD, I think they're all normal to average. They're mostly working with limited resources.
I don't see Thiry getting anything wrong. IMO you're splitting hairs.
One thing that distinguishes her--if you read a lot of Rams stuff, she is more likely than most to include an original quotation she got from personally interviewing a player, as opposed to just constantly echoing the press conferences.
....
So you agree with her when she said Goff has played poorly in the rain?
IMO, you’re bending over backwards for her. But that’s your prerogative.
Me, I really don’t care much about it. She’s not great, but she’s not the worst.
Bottom line is that the current group of LA beat writers that cover the Rams are worse than most other teams, especially those at the LA Times. They’re awful.
I think the "rain" comment is minor and inconsequential. It doesn't mean anything to me.
Am I bending over backwards? All I really said was that she is basically no different from all the other tier 2 Rams reporters. I don't see any point in singling her out as distinct from them. In fact I don't see much difference between her and other espn Rams guys from before, like Gonzalez or Wagoner.
I don't agree that the group as a whole is awful, either. I think they're competent.
We're not going to find them unusually informative because as older dedicated, informed, regular message board contributor type fans, we just know a lot more than they do because if nothing else we know the history. The LA writers have been aboard for 3 years now. I remember discussing/debating the Rams online in intense detail in 1998. We remember discussing the Faulk trade the day it happened. Etc.
But I don't BLAME the LA Rams writers for that. Writers who cover other teams have often been on their beat with their team for years and years.
