I think with this situation if the injury has nothing to do with his knee, then it really doesn't change things.
If compensation is causing issues elsewhere somehow (I doubt it with arthritis, but I really don't know), then yeh, it's a problem.
There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
