I can't ever remember thinking " we should have run more" after that game at all.
Thought that was a great game plan.... a missed 2pt conversion and a missed FG killed us. Not not running enough
It just depends on what you're trying to accomplish. With both Martz and McVay it isn't simply about moving the ball or scoring points. What they are both failing to do is help the defense. When you run the ball and sustain drives and wear down the other defense, those are all benefits to committing more the running game.
Yes, passing all the time can lead to yards and points but it isn't necessarily the way to win games. Just as "balance" isn't as important as unpredictability. Those first two drives were killers and I think everyone knew they would come back to haunt the Rams. Getting two short fields and going 3 and out and settling for FG's was just bad playcalling.
McVay is no longer surprising defenses and it is hurting the team. Hopefully he figures it out and gets them back on track.
Like I said, GZ hits that kick and these post don't exist....period
And if Goff would have sprained his pinky toe and Bortles came in and threw 11 TD's they would have won too. But it didn't and GZ didn't and the posts DO exist.
You may not think the rushing game is significant but I think the last two weeks illustrate how important it is and it's going to be. For a variety of reasons, they better get it working.
