The 6 man front the Browns ran basically singled up their DEs on our OTs, DTs on our OGs, NT on OC and a LB on the line against our TE. That singles up everyone and allowed their MLB to make a play on the RB.
So if there are 7 in the box (6 on line and 1 mlb) that singles up your WRs so its shotgun or 3 drop steps for your QB and quick passes. Forget outside runs because that defense is designed to stretch you out and allow the the LBer to make a play. Forget screens in the middle of the field, you have 12 or 3 guys muddling up that area. RB wheel routes, esp with a quick back (Henderson?). Using a 2nd TE like a H back as a lead blocker can work to blow up that MLB or to get out in front on a sweep. Inside tackle runs can work if you can get a hat on the mlber somehow.
The other thing you can try is to force them out of the double eagle front by going 2 by 2 WR sets. You are singling up WRs so run some rub routes and a bunch of short passes to soften them up for the deep stuff. Running between the tackles doesn't matter if your run 4 WRs and 0 TEs or 3 and 1 because its between the tackles.
Personally i would run 4 wr 2x2 sets and just set up in shotgun and let Kupp, Woods, and Cooks (and Reynolds) do their thing. And run Gurley and Brown between the tackles and Gurley and henderson on wheel routes to the strong side of the field.
One last thing, not every team is going to have the players to effectively run this defense well. Seattle and SF can. NE can. Cleveland could. TB cannot.
wow. incredibly well thought out. i'm going to have to read this 3 or 4 times before i begin to comprehend this. injecting the receivers to exploit wide 6 makes a ton of sense to me. especially if you can average 3.3 to 4 yards a carry against it running.
