Re: Probably true. But locker room leadership and winning helps

There's little doubt that Ramsey is what so many say about him: juvenile, self-centered, etc.
But there was the same thoughts about Marcus Peters and he's been a good citizen since the day he arrived.
The locker room leadership, revered veterans, an HC who has the personality to handle difficult personalities, and winning usually helps to deal with these guys.

The Pats are a prime example of taking problems guys and subduing them and getting good performances out of them.
Who wants to go face to face with Bellicheck and Brady?

I think McVay is so highly regarded, and the Rams have such wonderful leaders like Whitworth and Talib and Brockers, that Ramsey would work out fine.

On the other hand: I really doubt the Rams will go after him due to what he is likely to command for a contract.

I don't think we can just dismiss Ramsey's red flags by lumping him in with Peters and saying both had bad things said about them. That's way to general and red flags need to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

In the case of Peters, I don't believe it's accurate to say that he was described as "self centered." The charge against him was that he was emotionally immature. If you recall all of his issues were related to that in that he'd get in trouble with emotional outbursts on the football field.

Personal foul penalties, taunting, getting ejected, jawing with the refs, picking up an officials flag and throwing it into the stands in frustration, and then leaving the game even though he hadn't been ejected. All of those are emotional outbursts. We've seen some of the same stuff with the Rams. Snead has said there are immaturity issues there. IMO, it's emotional immaturity; he has low emotional IQ.

We can label that juvenile but that's decidedly not the same as being self-centered. In fact, the way McVay described Peters was the opposite of self-centered. He described him as passionate (that's the positive side of being emotional), someone who loves football, a huge competitor who hates losing, and one of the hardest workers you'll ever see in reviewing film to get better.

What we see with Peters fits with the positive attributes McVay has described and emotional immaturity. Put it all together and you get a player who loves winning but occasionally loses his freakin mind.

That player can still fit into the "We not me" culture because his essence is all about winning. It's for the team. Peters has said, and his teammates have verified, that when he loses his mind with out of control emotions, and his actions threaten or cause his team to lose, he has been very contrite and apologetic. And once his emotions stabilize he returns to balling all out. And we know that his teammates in KC loved him and complained about him being traded.

On the other hand, a player who is self-centered is for himself. Think Suh. Usually teammates don't love that guy. The self-centered guy is the one who is getting into yelling matches with coaches, has a rep for being abrasive with teammates and coaches. These are the things Ramsey has been accused of. Also, when they're unhappy their performance drops. Kind of like Ramsey now and last year. It's a totally different, and IMO much worse, set of red flags.

I've also got to say I have a differing opinion on the contract aspect. I think the Rams would be willing to pay market prices for an elite CB. If they trade for Ramsey I don't think they'll hesitate there. Wade's highest priority in his scheme is strong coverage. After AD, I believe Wade would prioritize an elite CB above anything else.
