Two things to keep in mind.

Wade prioritizes CBs and coverage even above pass rush. Which means that if Peters and Fowler both had a big year, and all other things being equal such as no stupid immaturity issues from either of them, then Peters would probably be a higher priority.

In addition, with 2 CBs hitting free agency it's a bigger need.

For these reasons I'd put both CBs odds to extend higher than 30%. But all in all a well thought out post.

Point about Wade prioritizing CB’s taken, dz.

First, let me say that we’re both in opinion territory here, and your opinion is every bit as good as mine.

But if both Fowler and Peters have a a big year, I still think Fowler gets the nod over Peters.

Here’s my rationale...

Wade likes his edge rushers, too. A lot. And currently he has only one proven Edge and that’s Fowler.

Wade has multiple options at CB. If Talib plays well, he could be a short term extension. Long is projected as a redshirt in ‘19 and a probable starter in ‘20. Snead has proven adept at finding CB’s via draft and FA. Heck, maybe Demoff can find a way to squeeze Peters in under the cap if he plays well. Snead May sign a FA that he likes more cheaply than either Talib or Peters would cost. Point being that there are multiple viable options to address outside CB for the Rams in ‘20.

BTW, I made both Talib and Peters 30% because it’s unknown which one the Rams will extend. Once it’s known which the Rams let walk the other will jump in their likelihood to extend.

If it comes down to an either/or between Fowler and Peters? Fowler has had no maturity issues since becoming a Ram. He can rush and he can defend the run. He can tackle. He’s a popular teammate that looks like a complete Edge player and seems to improve game by game. If Fowler gets a big 2nd contract, I still believe that he will play his heart out.

No need to mention Peters’ shortcomings, is there?

Only way I see Peters over Fowler in an either/or is if Peters blows it up while demonstrating maturity while Fowler just sputters.

Ok...you and zn have done a good job in swaying me to your side. I hadn't factored in depth or Snead's prowess in finding DBs.

With one caveat: I agree that if one doesn't get signed the other's chances of extending jump up but I would put the overall odds of extending one of them much higher than 60%.

I can't imaging Wade being fine going into the draft with a redshirt rookie in Long as his #1 CB.
