In American courts all suspects are innocent until proven guilty. Since Rath was exonerated why would there be an independent investigation by the NFL and/or some form of punishment that could be fished out by the NFL? Since he was found "not guilty" he should be allowed to return to his place of work without RAMifications. Years ago, a young woman accused the 49ers QB of raping her and before he could respond he was released from the team. Later, it was found out that the young woman seduced him and told her best friend all about it and still called the campus security and accused the guy. The guy was ruined. I think the NFL should go by the court decisions as that is supposed to be the law and not inject its own kangaroo court as its own form of justice. I really don't have a horse in the race concerning Rath. The whole story seems very strange to me. I don't get where her husband was when she allegedly woke up with Rath on or near her bed, why she would go to sleep naked with strange men in her house, why she wouldn't lock her bedroom door. Just never seems to add up. On the other side it is beyond weird that Lipitor would make him trip out to the point that he would get into some married woman's bed in her house. None of it makes sense. I hope that the NFL stays out of it and the Rams base his return on the merits of his talent and experience on the football field and in their training areas.

Because he never denied doing what he was accused of doing. Whether the story was strange to you personally or not, he never denied the accusation. So unlike a lot of sexual assault cases, this is not one in which the victim is seen as guilty no matter what.

His defense was that he was too messed up to fully grasp and consciously intend what he did.

That defense might earn him a no guilty verdict in a court of law, but it leaves open whether or not the league or the Rams find his behavior acceptable.
