Goff has been working on reacting post-snap this offseasonIn his recent MMQB column for Sports Illustrated, Albert Breer broke down what exactly Goff has been working on during OTAs and minicamp. Breer writes that “the Rams spend their spring trying to master their own offense,” and that “the offensive calls going in this spring routinely put Goff and the offense in a spot where they have to react post-snap.”
This means Goff is focusing on improving at adapting to what the defense calls, and going through his progressions rapidly with little time to react to what he’s seeing.
It seems to be paying off so far, as Breer has been told that “Goff’s done a better job this spring in more quickly getting to his second read, then to his third read or checkdown.” Ever since Goff started to break out, his success has been diminished by detractors who credit McVay for most of the Rams’ success.

All of which only supports the idea that he has indeed been working with training wheels. Which isn't a bad thing considering the quick turnaround and overall results. But it also confirms that the league figured out how to take away what had been so successful. While I'm glad they are addressing it, I'm not particularly thrilled that they have to focus on this after year 3 for Goff. As good as the gimmick was, IMO, it did retard his growth as an NFL QB. Hopefully it's all just part of McVay's plan and is on his schedule.
I highly doubt the league just somehow figured it out .... you think they would have figured it out by the end of 2017, but obviously they didn't... losing Kupp and Gurley didn't help things.
The game is about match ups, sometimes a defense just matches up well with talent and schemes a little better then others...Dallas and the Saints both had good defenses towards the end of the year, but couldn't stop the Rams.... the Bears had help with 17° weather and a great defense. All offenses are going to struggle from time to time with match ups and or weather. I don't think the league somehow all the sudden figured us out. Bill Belicheck is one of the greatest defensive minded coaches of all time and simply fooled our young coach and younger QB that day. We will figure it out by September. trust me....having a healthy Kupp and Gurley will be a huge help. I'm hoping losing that Super Bowl was one of the greatest things that could have happened to this team.
I think the media has overblown the whole 15 second crap so much that people actually believe that's the only way Goff can operate....but if you watch the games you can see more times than not, we are snapping the ball well after the 15 second clock expires....and. No way in hell could Goff even hear him in the NFC Championship game anyways.
Goff is still very young and will only get better.... as will McVay.
We have a very bright future
