Robert Woods had plenty of question marks about him when the Rams signed him to what was though of as a big deal. The Rams at the time seemed totally incapable of getting a good WR after years of futility. Many scoffed at the Woods signing and with some good reason as his performance in Buffalo was below average for a starting WR and marred by injury.
Snead who saw a hard working talented WR and paid him for a big signing. At the time I though well Woods is better than anyone else we have but admittedly I wasn’t all that excited. In fact after years of wandering in the wilderness it was hard to get me excited even though I remained eternally hopeful in a turnaround and the development of Goff.
Well now Snead looks like a brain surgeon and Woods is a star while being paid like a decent WR. As a fan this is what you want to see, players outperforming their contracts. Now this usually takes a few years as the market goes up and contracts get bigger but it also requires the player to perform really well. Woods has done that and we have him signed for the prime years of his career.
Snead has traded those who did not out perform their contracts in Quinn and Tree and refused to sign Jenkins and Johnson who seemed to be demand top dollar while performing at a level below their contract demands. There will be a lot of hard choices in the future for the Rams to make but signing players that will outperform the contracts is a key to long term success with the constraints of the Salary Cap.
