I agree this is all speculation and a lot of unreasonable speculation at that but having just had an acl done it's not always cut and dry. I'm not a professional athlete but the dr told me that the surgery is completely up to me and hes known many people who just live with it and function at a high level. Moreover after he cut my knee open he almost didnt do it because he thought I may not need it. Dont get me wrong, I dont think any of this occurred and I do think a professional athlete is on another level but I'm just saying it's not as cut and dry as you may think.

Remember, the verdict on Gurley after the MRI was no structural damage. That means no rips, tears, or breaks. No repairs needed. So this discussion is kind of moot unless people think either Gurley or the Rams are lying, which would not only violate league rules but be irresponsible in the extreme. In terms of your experience, would people advise you no surgery was necessary if your job was to plant, accelerate, and take hits on that knee, at full speed, from various angles? I dunno but I doubt it.

But back to the main thing. It's not even a case of a tear of some kind but surgery is not necessary. They said no structural damage at all. Nothing. So a regular guy like you or me v. an NFL running back aside, they directly said there was no structural damage. So your situation doesn't really compare. You did have structural damage but surgery was optional. Gurley has no structural damage at all.
