I'm not sure the Rams have any control over what surgical procedures the running back needs. Even if they believed he needed surgery it is still up to Gurley. It's his knee and he has control over his medical options. I'm no expert on NFL contracts but I would be shocked if a team could dictate whether or not a player should have a surgery.

They have recourse. In fact more than recourse---no team would let a player touch the field if he needed knee surgery and did not get it.

Leaving aside the fact that the team said an MRI revealed there was no structural issue and therefore no need for surgery---no player with a surgical knee is NOT going to get surgery. I mean. C'mon.

We;ve gone from one completely speculative point where someone was saying maybe Gurley found out he needed surgery on his own and the team is refusing to go along with it, to another completely speculative point where the team can;t force a reluctant Gurley to get surgery?

In the real world surgery is not indicated and no one goes around lying about whether or not a player needs knee surgery.

If you need knee surgery and don't get it and (in the extremely unlikely event) that you play anyway or are even allowed to, you are simply going to rip the knee up more. Gurley knows that, the team knows that, my daughters who don't care about football know that. cool smiley
