That's what an excuse is: The reason. Not sure how it turns into a negative. Lessening the blame just not macho enough I guess. John Wayne wouldn't let a shoulder injury keep him from playing at a peak level. Some unrealistic ideal that only fictional characters and Jack Youngblood can live up to.

All that said, Brockers didn't play well. Hopefully whatever was keeping him from being a good player is over. Otherwise I hope someone better steps up.

Well, they're different things. What if I said (and I'm not and wouldn't, this is all hypothetical) "what is your excuse for writing that post." Is it really the same as saying "what is your reason for writing that post"?

Here's the thing about Brockers. You have to assume the coaches have some faith in him. There were no real cap consequences for cutting him this off-season--they would have saved a straight-up 10 M. That probably would have covered any replacement. In fact Wade's DE from Denver, Malik Jackson, was available, among other possibilities. So the coaches who saw him have a less effective year at DE in 2018 than he did in 2017 kept him in 2019. They're counting on him. You think they do that if they don't believe in him? (And the 6'5 305 pound MB is probably a better 3/4 DE prospect than the 6'4 288 pound J Franklin-Myers, who at this point looks to me to be a rotation guy and an inside/outside pass-rush specialist.)

Now given that yeah it's possible that Wade and co. could be wrong. But they are close to the action. You would think they would know whether MB was worth keeping.

Or maybe in spite of everything I am saying they end up liking J F-M at DE and cut MB before week 1.

My bet is though that yes MB played hurt in 2019 and they expect more from him this year.
