You make a compelling case here, zn.
Now the $16M question is, “Can Peters’ play this season demonstrate that he’s worth that big 2nd contract extension?”
We’ll see...
Agreed. That's the question. But I would refine it a bit. The refined question is, is he worth that to the RAMS. Because if the Rams don't pay him that he will most likely get around the 2nd contract amount from another team. Watkins, again, is a good example of how that works,
There ARE players who fall out of the market through poor play and are not deemed worth
a starter's 2nd contract amount at their position. But as a rule you have to really drop in performance for that to happen.
I 100% agree with your refined version, zn.
Care to make a guess as to the likelihood of Peters being able to earn that extension in Wade’s system? Just for fun?
I’m guessing 50-50. Many on this board think he’s much less likely to earn it. Heck, some think that he was a mere rental. What say you?
I honestly do not know.
But the Rams have let CBs walk. Jenkins, Johnson.
By the time Talib came back they had adjusted the defense and Peters did fine. Is that worth 15-16 M to the Rams, considering all the other big contracts they have to think about? Cause, of course, the alternative is to draft a guy. Maybe 2. And that's in addition to Long.
