This is what their CBA lawyers are supposed to figure out and go to bat for them on. The whole CBA is obviously a big hairy thing and rather complicated. Perhaps this "loophole" was one smaller chip given up to get a bigger chip in the players' favor. Who knows?
In any case... I'd be happy if Countess would take a paycut and resign. If he won't... it happens.

That meant that any team that wanted him has to give the Rams a 6th round pick in addition to signing him. Now that teams can't sign him, they ask for a pay cut. I feel that the Rams are within their rights to cut him but they should not be allowed to offer a lower salary. Now that they cut him he can resign for less but he also can sign with anyone else for the same or more than what the Rams are offering. The big problem for Countess is most teams have less cap space now then at the start of free agency.
