To me if you are the 51st, 52nd, 53rd guy on the roster you are there to play special teams. The two letters next to your name under 'position' on the roster are pretty meaningless. And in fact I don't see why some are not just listed as ST. If you're the 4th RB, 7th LB, 9th DB you are a ST first and foremost.

And that's great. Guys can carve out careers like that and be instrumental. Remember Nick Sorenson back in 2001-2002? He wasn't a safety, he was a ST. Matthew Slater with the Patriots? He's not a WR, he's a ST. Both (and many others) carved out long careers as pure ST guys. Maybe this kid can be. If he makes the team and can contribute there and never plays a down on defense he'll have done really well for himself.
