I don't think the Rams had any idea Gurley was developing whatever it is....let's call it arthritis in 2017.
If they did, they wouldn't have signed him to a new contract this year.
Also, I don't know that Gurley knew. I remember something really telling he said after the season that has stuck with me. He said, that when it first hit in the beginning of the season, he thought about retiring and giving the Rams all their money back.
That doesn't sound like a guy who knew he might be damaged goods.
