The workout tells a different story than what everyone thinks they see. Truth is guys who don't have elite edge skills can still end up being elite on the edge if they have the right mix of abilities to include stealthy athleticism and surprising strength. Guys like Kevin Greene didn't happen by accident.
I watch tape of Polite and see him get pushed all over the place, while I watch Winovich setting a consistent hard edge in the run, keeping blockers at bay to get to the ball and also logging pressures. Honestly at this point I think he's one of the most underrated players in this draft. But then again I suspect some teams aren't admitting how much they like him to their media buddies. I agree with you in taking him round 2 btw, but it would not surprise me if someone late first round were to take him.
Oh and btw it looks like the Rams are going to run quite a rotation this year on the edge. They've got to keep Matthews healthy and fresh for the playoffs. So a guy like Winovich looks like a perfect fit: he'd immediately boost our edge play in the run, and he's stout enough to rush the strong side and get some pressures. Even though I am of the mind that OL is looking more and more likely at 31, I would absolutely love it if we maneuvered to get Winovich with our first selection.
