Yes, he played well. But, a couple of sacks in 6 games does not make him an elite player. If some team wants to pay him like a future HOFer, so be it. That's the way it goes. You never do well overpaying FAs.

Fowler is a “want” and even then only for the right price. But hardly a “must have”.
There are other options via trade or FA that would work just fine. Maybe even better.
Saffold is another. Rams want him, but it must be at a reasonable price. Sigh...
