hesitant to trade like 2018 again this spring

February 28, 2019 09:05AM
I think the Rams are in a nice spot overall and they don't need to make the kind of ultra-aggressive splash moves they did last year. Assuming they can re-sign Saffold they are mainly looking for role players- an ILB, a 4th CB, more DL and OL depth, a QB2, etc. Probably will draft to address the edge spot and safety as well.

Other than maybe trading a day 3 pick for Hughes or Mercilus (if they're deemed good fits) who could give them the same production Fowler did at a lower price I would rather hang back and mostly wait for guys that get released. Those guys don't count against the comp pick formula. And the Rams could be looking at going into the new stadium in 2020 with (a) a lot of cap room, (b) all their 2020 draft picks and (c) several compensatory picks. And their only name free agents they'd have to worry about this time next year are (maybe) Brockers, Peters, Blythe and Zuerlein.
