After one Rams offensive play in the Super Bowl, coach McVay knew that New England was employing the same defense that the Bears used. This according to an article in Monday’s RamsWire online.
Assuming the story is factual (I have no reason to think otherwise), I find this very disturbing. You would think that McVay knew, after the Bears game, that other teams would adopt the Bears’ defensive blueprint, and he would be prepared for it. But the Rams were not prepared for it in the first half of the Super Bowl, and, what’s worse, did not seem to make adjustments during halftime.
Precisely. Good catch, trouble.
McVay has GOT to have contingency plans in place for when the inevitable copycat schemes are deployed next season by our opponents. And counter schemes to punish them.
We have many outstanding players everywhere on O, but they must be optimally schemed to be most effective.
