The Rams ran 8 total 1st down plays in the first half (spread out over 6 total 1st half drives).
Of those 8 plays, three were attempted pass plays - an incompletion, a 3 yd completion, and a sack.
Of the 5 first down runs in the first half, one was a 2 yd run (which resulted in a 3 and out) and the other four all went for 5 yds (3 by Anderson, 1 by Gurley).
Following the 4 first down 5 yd runs, the Rams ran the ball twice, one of which one followed a false start penalty, resulting in a 2nd & 10 and ending in a 3 and out.
3 times in the 1st half the Rams had a 2nd & 5 after a first down 5 yd run. 2 times they passed the ball, resulting in 10 and 18 yd completions. Only one time did they run it on 2nd & 5, gaining 3 more yards to set up a 3rd & 2 - a manageable distance that the Rams should convert. Unfortunately, Goff was sacked, ending in another 3 and out.
My point - in the first half there were 5 first down runs, of which three of the series ended in 3 and outs - one followed the 2 yd gain on 1st down, one followed a penalty that eliminated the 5 yds yards gained on the run, and one came on a very manageable 3rd and 2. In retrospect, only one of the five first down runs seemed to be a problem.
