Thomas ripped off Robey-Coleman's helmet -- penalty?

My motive for asking this question has nothing to do with the non-call in the Rams-Saints game, but isn't it unsportmanlike conduct to rip off an opponent's helmet? If so and they had called it, it would have backed the Saints 15 yards further from the end zone, and it probably would have meant 3 points rather than 7 points.
