I think it's more than Higby or Everett it the position.
The Rams haven't had an elite TE in years but we have had some great role players and have some game plans that made better use of a big target from the position that was able to post up in the middle of the field or be a threat in the seam or sideline much more consistently than this offence uses the position.
The TE in the McVay offence appears to be the last read , the last targeted position in the passing game .
So we are going to it mainly as a blocking position why don't we just draft or sign a Cory Harkey FA all over again and let em just thump the LBs and safeties ?.
That's what I want to know.
Otherwise don't we need to waste a 2nd or even a 4th or 5th round pick on any TE prospect who was a receiving talent in college and not see a true use of the skill set .
I do think our young coach will unleach the position certain games at least I hope so .
Otherwise the WRs and Goff may find themselves being jumped on a bit more than they should in coverage and 1st downs harder to come by without a big threat to throw to any TE.
This game could actually be Everett's or Higbees time to shine .
Same with Gurley in the passing game against a LB.
Hope Baby Genius calls the calls and makes it happen for the TE position besides blocking and space eating.
Too much Robert Woods or Cooks could lead to tipped balls etc.
Go Rams.
