Check out this link about how the NFL wants the refs to spot the ball.
Watch the spots closely on any upcoming games and you will see the pattern of spotting on a yard market not actuall where it should be spotted. Shane on the NFL for wanting to speed up the game.

Makes no sense at all.... just spot the ball where it is actually at... 1 yard is 3 feet, thats quit a wide margin in a game of inches.
There needs to be a replay official who could easily call down to the refs to correct a bad spot. McVay probably figures it's not worth challenging for a one yard spot on a 2nd and 1 down and distance, but it ended up being very crucial and essentially became as bad as a turnover as the Rams punted two plays later after Gurley lost 2 yards on 2nd and 1 then we missed the 3rd down conversion...very frustrating because it was pretty clear that Woods was past the first down, but since he was coming back to the ball he ended up a yard behind the line to gain as he ended his dive....he was touched down by a defender with ball in his hands at the first down line yet we punted two plays later in a game where every possession was precious
I hate how the NFL says they don't want the games going over three hours and sacrifice outcomes .... wouldn't take more then three minutes for them to fix this very easy fix.
The spot they gave Gurley almost cost us the Seattle game and the one they gave Hekker could say it did cost us that game.
