I'm extremely hard on every coach of every team I like win or lose.
I don't want to hug him when he wins and kick him to the curb when he loses.
I give him praise when he is good to amazing, and I critique the sh*t out of him when he makes mistakes, win or lose.
I wanted to punch Bob Stoops in the mouth 1000x when he was the coach at Oklahoma. But, oh no, to some fans because we had just come off of probation and were a terrible team for 10 years, Bob gets carte blanche. Screw that. Thank you for bringing us out of the mess. Now continue being great or I will pick you apart.
I used to scream at Pat Riley when he coached the Lakers and same with Phil Jackson. It has nothing to do with wins and losses, but maintaining the highest standards at all times.
And I'm not using Tomlin as anything other than an example. He has won two Superbowls. That is why he has been the head coach forever. And because he has been the head coach forever the fans grow somewhat restless. This isn't Cincinnati. If McVay fails to come up big in the playoffs after a considerable amount of time, he can go find another gig.
