In the Between the Horns podcast a few weeks back, D'marco Farr made a really interesting, albeit cryptic remark.

Farr referred to a conversation he had had with Cromer, the OL coach. Farr said that Cromer described some of the techniques he uses to help the OL win its battles with the DL. Farr was not at all specific--well, he wouldn't be, would he? But, he said that these techniques were "evil." He seemed irritated, almost disgusted by their effectiveness.

OK, Farr is employed by the Rams and he speaks well of a Ram coach. No surprise there. But remember that Farr was a a top-shelf DT who had a lot of experience with OL play. He is an old hand at counteracting OL techniques. There's not much he doesn't know about the battle at the LOS. And I promise you he was amazed and mildly scandalized by Cromer's techniques.

Now, I dunno know from nuffink. I have no idea what Farr was talking about, and I doubt I could see it if it were pointed out.

But I wonder if, to some extent, we have some "system OL." Whit is a great but aging player. Saffold is really good and Sullivan is a wily vet. Havenstein is solid, but has always been limited, and Blythe is a technician with perhaps limited strength.

If Cromer is really, really good, that could account for our OL. The left side is pretty consistently excellent. From C over, the performance seems to vary from excellent to problematic.

Well, I can't pin any of this down. But it's an interesting puzzle. What impressed Farr so much and does it account for our OL's somewhat inconsistent performance?
