I just want to take a moment and look back at what a great draft the Rams had in 2017 even though they didn't have a 1st round pick. Hats off the Les Snead.
They say it takes 3 years to truly evaluate a draft by 2/3 through year 2 things are looking pretty good.
Gerald Everett: 2nd Round Pick has been slow to emerge and has had a lot of nagging injuries but in the last couple of games he has found the end zone and in some big spots. With Cooper Kupp gone for the season expect him to get his chances and begin to emerge.
Cooper Kupp: 3rd Round: Wow we hit a home run this this kid as he has been sensational as a slot receiver right from the start. To bad about the ACL but he should come back stronger than ever.
John Johnson: 3rd Round: Another starter and strong contributor on defense. Has made some key plays this year on a defense that is still trying to figure things out. Great all round safety that can play either safety position.
Josh Reynolds: 4th Round: He finally gets a chance to show his stuff and wow he has been good and he is becoming confident. He has stepped up big time and it seems as if he is really going to emerge. Like Everett it is a little early to shout from the rooftops but things are looking very positive.
Samson Ebukam: 4th Round: Player of the week who had a killer game wow. His game was so good there has never been a defensive player to have such a great game. Another starter who seem to be emerging and maybe emerging into a star. We will have to see but but those flashes turned into a bright light last week.
So in review Snead hit on 5 players in the after the Goff trade year without a first round pick which is a heck of a job. He did a good job of nabbing some extra picks in the 3rd and 4th round and they seem to be paying off big time. To give Snead all the credit is wrong though as McVay and his staff are doing a great job of developing the talent that Snead acquired for the team. Overall considering the amount of ammunition we had in the draft the 2019 draft right now is looking pretty darn good.
Starters = red
Possible future starter = blue
I didn't see much in Everett at first but he could be changing my mind this year.
Reynolds is a 4th WR...that could count, depending.
Remember, the picks are collaborative in this system. Snead is the personnel guy of course but he defines his job as finding the kind of player the coaches want. That means communication is a heavy part of the process, so you need a GM and a coach who know how to facilitate that kind of communication.
