Most people are slow to grasp the subtleties of QB play until they see results in terms of wins. No one saw Brady’s elite QB skills until he won. People are generally enamored with big arms and athleticism which is why a QB like Stafford still gets overrated. Stafford is a coach killer.
Almost everyone is the media, even ex coaches and GMs, have a bias. I’ve come to realize that their biases make many of their opinions flawed.
My father said something to me many many years ago regarding evaluating athletes. I don’t need those guys to tell me anything, I can see it with my own eyes.
I can point out at least a dozen media experts who get paid for their opinions, who have said some of the most blatantly ridiculous statements and then simply walk away from them and attack anyone who calls them out.
Funny story is I told my son this sports writer, Mike Salfino, tweeted after the Rams lost the lead in the 4th quarter that the Rams were done, and Goff should be in concussion protocol. My son, who is a Giants fan, said you’re listening to idiots. I guess I’m just a sucker for any sports talk.
Helluva post there, max.
Lots of wisdom packed into that one.
Btw, I agree that Stafford is not only overrated, but is a coach killer.
Jimmy Durante once said, “everyone wants to get into the act”
That applies more today than ever.
Everyone thinks they’re an expert. Heck, some of these guys are kids who think they’ve got all the answers when all they’ve got is a naive opinion.
The ether is filled with this crap, from twitter to self proclaimed expert blogs, and yes even message boards.
I guess I shouldn’t get upset when I call them out and they dismiss what I say as some random guy who doesn’t have a million followers, as if that’s what makes you qualified.
Anyway, there are about a handful of guys who actually know what they’re talking about. The rest are blathering amateurs who add nothing of value.
End of rant from a 66 year old football junkie.
