and I have no idea if this is true or not, but 2 light in the seat ILBers is not helping the run defense in any way.
I want at least 1 thumping run stuffer in there. If it isn't Kiser (I like Kiser, did when I ranked him and mocked him to the Rams) then it needs to be someone that can get after the RB.
Cam Smith
Devin White (he is a top 10 pick so he is not going to be available)
Mack Wilson from Alabama
Shaq Quarterman from Miami
maybe Edwards from Wisconsin
Tre Lamar from Clemson
These are the guys I like and they are all over the draft so they should be able to target and get one.
I don't think Wade is for having 2 light in the seat ILBers either. I believe this year is an exception to his normal thing.
Right after we signed Ramik Wilson I did a research post here explaining why I thought Ramik would be the starter. That guess turned out wrong but I found some insightful things from looking at Wade's last 20 years of ILBers.
The average size was 240, and usually in the range of 240-250
He ALWAYS had at least one ILB that was in that size range
This years Rams team is the first that I found where that's not the case which is why I initially didn't think they would start Littleton and Barron.
Given the bad results in the run game, he probably won't go with 2 light ILBs again anytime soon.
More tidbits...
He rarely expended substantial resources on the position.
Only 3 ILBs drafted out of 48 total defensive picks
2 of the 3 were premium draft picks (2nd and 3rd round) but no 1st rounders
He most commonly picked up an inexpensive vet on a short 1-2 year contract
Given all of this, I think a likely outcome for next year is Barron walks, Littleton slides to his position, and Kiser takes over at MLB since he has the requisite size. Another alternative is instead of Kiser, they pick up a fairly inexpensive run stuffing vet with the requisite size.
