No such thing as a clean ACL tear. When it tears the two ends are like frayed ropes. Unlike other ligament tears (Achilles, MCL) a torn ACL cannot be repaired. The only treatment is a reconstruction of the knee. Fortunately these surgeons have gotten pretty good at this surgery and there's reason to think he'll be ready to play by opening day.
