Look at the roster objectively (tough as a fan) and ask yourself if I'm wrong on any of these guys:
Donald - All world, no doubt
Brockers - nice player, doesn't do any one thing outstanding
Suh - Never been a team player, known to freelance, and is either past his prime or at the very tail end of his prime
Longacre - try hard with limited athletic ability
Ebukam - a converted FCS DE 4th round OLB, limited pass rush skill, too light to hold up against the run.
Barron - too big and slow to be a SS, not big enough to be a thumper, or run stuffer in a ILB capacity. plus, no instincts.
Littleton - undersized ILB probably playing out of position. Has played well this year. A bright spot.
Joyner - I have no idea what is going on with him, but he is playing poorly, going for big hits and missing, or ignoring the ball while its in the air. Either way, a huge disappointment and is playing his way out of LA
Johnson - a nice S that has played well, but again, a complimentary player, not an allstar
NRC, Shields, Hill - take your pick, nothing more then nickle DBs trying to replace Talib.
Peters - I warned everyone on this message board who would listen that he was bad news. Well, here he is, a mental midget, that gambles too much and doesn't really care about the team.
You have 1 pro bowler, 2 former me first pro bowlers and a bunch of average joes. What on earth would make anyone think this is a dream team?
PS - if Talib comes back, does that stop Peters being dumb and a gambler? No. Does adding Fowler make any of the other 4 LBers any better? no.
Too harsh, Dead. IMHO, anyway.
We both agree that no team can have pro bowlers at every single position. And I’m only gonna comment on those with which I disagree. Some slightly, and others more strongly. All others left out we agree upon. Okay?
I consider JJ a quality S. Maybe not an all star, but a quality S nonetheless. Fits in well on a potential Top 5 D.
I consider NRC among the very best nickel CB’s. More than happy with him and another good fit in a potential Top 5 D.
I thought Fowler was a pleasant surprise in his Ram debut. Might not help Ebu, Longacre, or Barron, but if he fits in, then he might be a nice piece in his own right in a potential Top 5 D.
Surprisingly, we agree on all the rest.
If you agree on everything but JJ, NRC and Fowler, then I wasn't too harsh. I will say this about JJ. I mocked him to the Rams in the 4th round when every other pundit had him as a 5th round to 7th round pick. So I obviously like him more then most. But he isn't an all pro S.
I love NRC in the nickle, the problem is these guys are forced (due to Talib) to the outside and none of them have been real good.
Fowler played in a handful of snaps after spending what 3 seasons underperforming and getting arrested in Jacksonville? I need to see a lot more before I pass judgement, but just like Peters, and Suh, there was a reason he was available.
I think you really missed my main point though brother, and thats that this team had the potential to be a very good defense, but it never had the horses to be a top 5 defense.
