Goff beats two future HOF: He plays another one next week

LOS ANGELES – The running back skipped around and took a victory lap. The coach jumped and had the wide-eyed look of a teenager who had thrown back a few cups of espresso. The quarterback shrugged.
“That was exciting,” Jared Goff said in a monotone voice, with zero trace of enthusiasm. “Very exciting.”
Indeed. A handful of times Sunday afternoon, the Rams’ perfect season seemed to be headed toward a noble end at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. For large stretches of the game, the Rams couldn’t move the ball or stop quarterback Aaron Rodgers from moving it. Then, in what seemed like a blink, they won.
Goff passed with aplomb, Aaron Donald pestered Rodgers, Greg Zuerlein made a big field goal, the Rams recovered a fumble and, presto, the Rams remained undefeated with a 29-27 victory at the Coliseum.
“Why would we worry?” Goff said.
Goff might have been the only person in the building – filled to near capacity with 75,000-plus thousand fans – who didn’t have an accelerated heartbeat. Then again, that’s Goff. Even though he got battered, with five sacks, and didn’t always look in command with his throws, he maintained poise and leadership.
Goff completed 19 of 35 attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns, and, perhaps most important, avoided any interceptions that would have been deadly for the Rams in a tight game. Goff didn’t exactly lead a late game-winning touchdown drive, but he put the Rams in position to score with some nice completions.
“I think he just continues to demonstrate that no moment is too big,” Rams coach Sean McVay said. “You know how much confidence we have in Jared and he is doing a great job.”
