and with all of McVay's ingenuity...
Why don't they find a way to get him involved more if he has "it"?
There has been comments on here about "holding the TE game back" as in some secret weapon. That's a no go.
I'm going to have to say it's likely one of, a combination of, or all of these things:
1) He's not very smart
2) He's not running proper routes
3) He can't get open
4) He makes too many mental errors
5) He can't block for Gurley
6) He doesn't make the tough catch
7) He hasn't shown "it" in practice, including dropping passes
I don't have all the facts...but I do have eyes.
If this guy has game, I hope it shows up...because if you give us a big body presence in the middle, the high flying Rams will go from Air Force to Space Force! And with the target on our back, with so many teams we play positioning for the playoffs, we need to, believe it or not, continue to step it up.
When we run those bunch formations, it would be great if we had an effective big guy to be part of those crossing patterns at the line of scrimmage...it's a lot tougher for corners to get around and contain an effective pass catching 6'5" 255 than it is 5'10" 190.
I'm still trying to understand McVay's philosophy yesterday in running almost exclusively in bunch formations. They had 6 DB's on he field and we tried running up the gut. We brought all the defenders into the box. Gurley earned his yards yesterday.
