I get the sentiment for having a positive, celebratory period. After a win, there is a desire to bask in that glow for a bit.
To bolster this position, I feel Sag made a very astute point. There is a time and place for everything. And right now, the Rams are in a happy place of being proud of a hard fought win. Critiquing comes later.
OTOH, I agree with Jemach. Critiquing is fun. Personally as a future oriented person, I'm always up for discussing how something could be better. It's why I can talk next year's draft at any time.
But critiquing has its downsides too. A couple of weeks ago, I was a little irked with what I felt was negativity after a win. In hindsight, I realized it wasn't so much that there was a strong tone of negativity, it was that I saw two critiquing threads before I had a chance to see the game for myself. So I started off in a bit of a sour place. That's my fault. I could have chosen to see the game, form my own opinions, and then visit the critiquing thread.
Ultimately I think I fall on the free expression side of things. I've noticed that we tend to get more board participation on negative, critiquing type topics than positive, celebratory ones. I'm for whatever gets the most board participation because that's why we all come here.
Well, with all due respect to absolutely everyone, none of us really have the right to say when the time is to post anything.
And...if pressed I would have a complex series of positives and negatives for this game, but I don't have any big negative. (It was different with the Denver game because in that game IMO McV made things harder on them with a certain lack of situational awareness. Today, instead, was just a tough game between two imperfect but very competitive teams).
The reason "criticism" threads are longer, I think, is that they spark immediate disagreement...they become debate threads. For obvious reasons. For example in the Denver game threads, people both debated the relative value of the criticism, AND some were basically asked to justify why they were critical AT ALL. You write fewer posts if you don't have to keep explaining why you wrote previous posts.
I said it before, but I think it is completely fair for posters after a game to designate a "celebration only" thread. Makes sense to me. And why not.
