You can debate player vs player at various positions. But as a whole unit this one is probably the best they have had since the 1983 and 1984 OLs with Slater, Harrah, Smith, Hill, Pankey and Bain.
Yes as a unit they play as well as any unit since the classic 80s guys.
But then, that OL had stellar talent. After the 79 superbowl Madden said that Slater played as well in that game as any tackle he had ever seen in any game.
I think the strength of this OL, like 99, comes from having some talented guys mixed in with a group that just has first rate synergy and those qualities that make an OL's whole greater than the sum of its parts.
That classic 80s OL was basically fielding 4 pro bowlers (Pankey was the only one who never made the pro bowl). In fact in 85 4 of them made the pro bowl together.
Plus they had a great OL coach, one of the best of his era...Hudson Houck who went on to coach the great Dallas OLs of the 90s.
