Saffold is expected to play

The Los Angeles Rams have had some bad injury luck recently. They’ve had a ton of key contributors go down with injuries of varying severity, and had a couple guys get banged up against the Broncos yesterday.

While it seems as if Cooper Kupp will be week-to-week with the knee injury he suffered, the Rams did get some better news on some of the other guys from coach Sean McVay.

McVay said at his Monday presser that the team expected Rodger Saffold, Matt Longacre, and Michael Brockers all to be able to play this week against the 49ers. It’s great news, as the loss of Saffold or Brockers in particular for any amount of time would be massive blows.

While Longacre isn’t nearly as important of a player as the other two, his injury could prove to be the most concerning. Longacre has dealt with back issues for a while now, and back surgery cut his 2017 season short. While the Rams haven’t been able to generate much of an outside rush this year, Longacre is still a starter and the Rams don’t have much depth behind him.

Saffold’s knee injury initially appeared like it might be serious, so the team dodged a bullet there. Brockers was added to the injury report last week with an ankle issue, then sprained his shoulder in Denver. He was able to return to the game and can hopefully avoid aggravating both issues this week. Overall the Rams are certainly banged up, but it could be a lot worse.
