Re: Well let's talk rareness of the player, good point

You're ignoring what was said. If you have a Brady, Brees or Rodgers, it's one thing. But just any franchise QB instead of arguably the greatest RB of all time?

How many rare RBs lead to perennial deep playoff contenders and championships? Here's a quick spin down Super Bowl memory lane:

2017 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Patriots or Falcons. Brady winner Top 5 QB
2016 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Broncos or Panthers. Manning winner Top 5 QB and Newton is a running QB
2015 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Patriots or Seahawks. Brady winner Top 5 (Marshawn is good, but not a rare/elite talent) and Russell Wilson is a running QB...or let's say he can beat you with his legs
2014 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Broncos or Seahawks. Superior running game which includes Russell Wilson
2013 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Ravens or Whiners. Here is your exception...and Flacco will never be back...
2012 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Patriots or Giants. Brady Top 5 QB
2011 Super Bowl: no rare RB for either Steelers or Packers. Roethlisberger Top 20 QB and Rodgers Top 5 winner

Having a rare/elite RB is a great thing. But it's not a required thing (like a good defense or QB ) Like Philadephia and New England last year?.

Getting a top 5 QB of all time isn't easy. The point is he would take any franchise type QB over Jim Brown. I listed almost all those QBs as exceptional so you take them. But if the point is Matt Ryan is a preference vs. Jim Brown...I think most all football fans, players, coaches, talking heads, etc. would raise an eyebrow on that one.

Here are the rushing rankings for each of those teams by season.
2017 Patriots 10 (won) Falcons 13
2016 Broncos 27 (won) Panthers 10
2015 Patriots 30 (won) Seahags 3
2014 Broncos 15 Seahags 1 (won)
2013 Ravens 30 (won) Whiners 3
2012 Patriots 7 Giants 14 (won)
2011 Steelers 14 Packers 27

2 of the 7 winners didn't have a rushing attack in the top 15. Of the 14 teams listed, only 4 didn't have a top 15 attack. Rushing, while not mandatory, is important.

I'll say it another way...see those teams that lost? Put Barkley on those teams and it's a different game.

Looking ahead...what to expect in upcoming years...IMO...

I hate to look through the eyes of FFB but it does tell a story. QBs are dropping in the draft because there are ample QBs to get you the points you need. RBs, however, well, they are the hot commodity and go quickly in rounds 1 and 2. Why? Because there just aren't that many great ones.

Pat Kirwan made an interesting point the other day. He said, it's a lot easier to find a 300 yd per game passer in the league than it is a 100 yard per game rusher. The funnel of players coming out of college is providing an ample supply of good "franchise type" QBs. RBs continue to rise in the most recent drafts, in part, to protect the QBs.

I think the game, while will be a "passing league", will require the RBs to be more and more of a receiver as well. I made this point when we discussed Gurley's value and guys like Le'Veon Bell. That enhances the value of a guy like Barkley who is has all the components of a great runner and receiver. Guys like that are really the best thing you can do for a young QB.

Finally, maybe you don't see many teams with RBs who have rare talent in the Super Bowl because they are just that...rare. And for some odd reason, you just don't see a great QB paired with a great RB. Goff is playing great and he has a great RB. That combo is special and if we are lucky, will serve us well for many more winning seasons. How good would Aaron Rodgers be with Todd Gurley? How many more Super Bowls would Brady have won with a Todd Gurley? Would Dan Marino won a Super Bowl with a Todd Gurley?

I remember one team with a great QB and great RB...The GSOT!!! What does that team look like if Robert Holcombe is your starter?
