Belicheck did it late in the game against the Colts and Manning years ago and it didn't work out, but I still feel that was the right call as I feel this was the right call.
But in the case of Belichick, it was 4th and a couple yards to go for the first down and they were on their own 30 or some such thing. This was a few inches. I would guess that QB sneaks on 4th and inches are successful 80% of the time. Certainly far odds better than trusting this defense with 1:30 left to get a FG.
