Rich Eisen with some great stuff, however, the age of Goff Max illustrated two years ago as to why he would take Goff over Wentz. Almost a full two years younger, which I did not think was a big deal, however, Eisen points that out in this clip. Nice job Max being a step ahead as usual.
When you study sports analytics (see playerprofile.com as a reference), there was a big difference in Goff and Wentz in terms of breakout age. Goff was 94th percentile and Wentz was only 25th percentile. This is not to say Wentz wouldn’t get much better, but clearly we should have expected more growth from Goff. And we got it.
Age was one of the 2 major factors I harped on when I said I preferred Goff.
The other, injury risk, also remains valid.
Funny story...
When I was at the Giants game last year I met up with the 2 guys who were doing the Downtown Rams podcast. They told me the reason they got together is because they were both huge draft Wentz advocates. When I gave my 2 reason for preferring Goff, they respectfully and quietly disagreed. (Probably because of my gray hair).
A few weeks later, When Wentz went down and Goff was playing well, one of them DMed me and said “thinking about what you said”. I won’t say which one reached out to me, but suffice it to say he was the smarter one.
