when he was drafted, after Fisher was fired, summer of 17' he was saying Goff would bounce back under McVay. He has been consistent

I always thought the piling on with Goff was ridiculous... and I preferred Wentz

I remember in the summer of 17 having a conversation on sir with Solomon Wilcox of NFL Radio. He had been dogging Goff saying McVay couldn't help Goff. I challenged him strongly saying it was way too early to draw that kind of conclusion after the guy had only played 7 games and under Jeff Fisher

He asked me to name another QB that started so poorly. I gave him Eli Manning who was statistically worse than Goff and also lost all 7 of his starts after the Giants benched Warner. I then asked him to name a QB who had recently flourished in a Jeff Fisher offense... he chimed in and said Steve McNair and then they hung up on me.

In any case Riddick should be calling people out... he's absolutely right. Stop being so quick to call people busts or say this QBs or that QB sucks before there is a large enough sample size to judge them on.

Leaving the "it was all Fisher" angle out of it, which I don't share. cool smiley

Generally speaking, if a guy shows certain "have em or you don't" traits in college, he will have them in the pros.

The mindset, and toughness. Goff's early years were brutal. He hung in there and got up after every hit. And that was back in his skinny, enzyme deficiency days.

Different qbs have different talents, but at Cal he showed just high caliber passing arm talent, and of course that's more that just arm strength and a quick release. Where other qbs have a nice line drive, Goff can throw a dozen different passes on the same line that all do slightly different things in the last few feet. He just has refined wiring when it comes to all that.

He also always had quick feet and worked on it in college, basically pretty much on his own. He said he would imitate things he saw Peyton Manning did on tape. So he's not a flashy athlete but within his own framework he is a very gifted one. It just doesn't always show up in highlights.

All of that adds up to a guy who stood a very good chance to make it in the pros.

The fact that McVay and Goff are a great combination just makes it all that much better.
