LMU93
I would not count on him doing much this year. If they can get him active and practicing mid season and perhaps well enough to play some special teams I would consider that a plus. A rookie missing all OTAs, camp, preseason, etc. is just really far behind and unlikely to catch up mid year. I think he has great potential but other than getting him healthy and used to the weekly routine of the NFL I doubt we see much of that potential until 2019.
I’m a bit more optimistic about Obo than you are, 93.
OLB is a more instinctive position, for one thing, so that should help with his transition. Obo is an instinctive player.
Another thing is that Obo has had plenty of mental reps. Not to mention watching practices and attending meetings and talking to coaches. So it’s not like throwing a swimming student into the deep end before seeing someone else swim. Lol.
Thirdly, unless Snead brings in an OLB from outside, Obo doesn’t have that high of a bar in terms of his competition. There is definitely a job open at OLB on this D and I think it better get filled if we’re serious about winning a SB.
I’m not predicting Pro Bowl for Obo, of course. But I could see him being phased in by midseason and growing from there.
I’m trying to resist my Sooner bias, but I’ve gotta say that I do have a good feeling about this kid.
