your right on those teams originating on the west coast. Interesting thing about the Angels and Padres. The origination to both teams -at least their names-was in the old Pacific Coast League, a minor league baseball league. I grew up watching the Los Angeles Angels play the San Diego Padres and the Hollywood Stars all in the PCL. The Angels were owned by the Chicago Cubs and their minor league players would move up to the Cubs when they were good enough. Chuck Conners (Rifleman) played 1st base for the Angels and was good enough to play in the majors but made more money in Hollywood. The Angels played in Wrigley Field in south central L.A. (Avalon Blvd.). The stadium was a replica on Wrigley Field in Chicago -ivy covered the outfield walls, etc except the stadium was smaller than the Chicago one. I think it only held about 14-16,000. When the minor league Angels folded the stadium was torn down. Gene Autrey bought the name Los Angeles Angels for the present major league team that actually played in the old Wrigley Field for at least one season.
The league -as best as I can recall-was made up of the following teams:
L.A.Angels
Hollywood Stars
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Seals (DiMaggio brothers played there)
Sacramento Solons
Portland Beavers
Oakland Oaks
Seattle Rainers
It was quite a league with quite a history. The Hollywood Stars actually played in shorts to stay cool.
