here's the thing about all that

I think the way McVay handled the preseason will get a lot of attention this year.

What won't be analyzed as much is what he did to get them ready. That is the secret sauce and is harder to replicate.

I do think offense has gotten sharper each week and is just hitting stride so I think the preseason reps would have helped in the first 2 games but I agree that the benefit does not out weigh the potential for injury. I also suspect that most teams are getting sharper as the season progresses so I think the benefit is minimal.

As far as I am concerned they got the preseason reps during the first half of the Raider game.

I think you're exactly right.

But the problem with discussing it is that some people take saying they WERE a bit out of sync in the first game as CRITICISM. It's like some people think when that's pointed out about them being rusty to start off, that it's an attack on McV for not playing the starters in the preseason.

Well it's not being said AS A CRITICISM.

It's just a simple fact. They were out of sync in game 1. Again, unless someone has a better explanation for Goff having a less than 55% completion percentage. And. It didn't matter.

I don't think they thought they WOULDN'T be a bit rusty in game 1. I think they KNEW they would be a bit rusty in game 1. I also think they didn't care. I think they thought that being rusty in game 1 was a fair price to pay and that they would probably win anyway.

So people should relax. Pointing out the obvious fact that they were a bit out of sync in game one is not criticism. It's just a simple realistic fact.

Either way trying to argue they WEREN'T rusty in game 4 makes no sense. No team is going to stay rusty that way for 4 games. Heck the most the starters would have gotten in the pre-season was a total of about 1 game's worth of play. So you know like game 1 of the season. So the "not rusty in game 4 therefore never rusty" argument makes no sense. But again people are probably making that argument because they're taking the "they were rusty" point as criticism and they're leaping to defend McVay against detractors. But there is no criticism. it's not a real thing.
