4 years ago? Over the years GRITS and I went to war with one another not often... but more than a few times. When we met in SD it just happened to be after one of our spats. The spat was mostly 'off the board', not entirely but mostly... and didn't have to do with the Rams exactly but rather the board.
GRITS was in SD with a huge contingent of Ram fans hoping the news would soon be announced that the Rams would indeed return to LA.... I was their celebrating my grandson's birthday, and mine... he a Charger fan.
I knew GRITS would be there... we had met several times in year's past. So I moseyed on over.. even though our last 'words' were not friendly. As you know GRITS was a huge man... and I'm not... but I wasn't fearful in the least. He spotted me before I spotted him....
Here came that gargantuan beast of a man and the first thing I noticed was that he'd had his teeth fixed... I noticed that because he was grinning from ear to ear. We didn't shake hands, he hugged me. It took about .00000000009 seconds until we were reliving those glory days... talking about Roman, and Jack, and the lines at the old coliseum bathrooms, and that popcorn vender guy who was so good Johnny Carson once had him on his show.
He'd start a story about a great game and I'd interrupt, "yeah, yeah (laughing), and then Jack sacked his ass". Then I'd start a story and GRITS would interrupt with, "Yeah, Yeah.. I smacked the steeler fan next to me and asked him how he liked THOSE apples".
About all we did that day was laugh and glory in Ram memories.
And we parted, agreeing that if they did move we'd meet again.... little did I know.. they would move, we would not meet again.
I don't ever think back to the many spats we had... truly.... I think of a big grin.. toothless and the last with teeth. I miss him. - JamesJM
